Summary: Casey’s still getting used to the idea that Olivia failing to breathe is not foul play. Liv has sleep apnea and Casey has nightmares.

                Casey had memorized the sounds of her apartment. The light evening traffic outside and the wily kids playing soccer in the hall composed a medley.  She was so used to it, so attuned that its absence was more jarring than the crash of a three-car pileup.

                Silence slammed over her with the force of a tsunami. Suddenly, snapped from sleep, she reached for the cane she had concealed between her bed and nightstand. Clasping it, she crept to the front room.

                The lights were on and shadows swayed.

                On the couch, Olivia shifted and recommenced breathing easy.

                Casey wilted, relieved.
