!!!!!!!!!

I thought they were like us, putting it off, yet still wanting, desiring.

They look at each other the same way we do, rarely and each stolen one meaningful.

They don't stand too close or help each other fasten up their gear. They always call each other 'sir' and 'Carter'. I guess it's a military thing. Their voices are always neutral, never giving too much away, but giving just enough to keep that secret something alive.

They never give comforting touches or embraces. At least not in public, never showing more than the passing concern of a teammate.

What they do that we don't is finish each other's sentences.

They do it constantly, without fail, like overlapping narrators. And the most interesting part is they don't realize the way their steps are synchronized or how often their shared looks are noticed.

What they do do when they think no one sees is intertwine their fingers lightly. They share a table in the commissary during the night and talk about all the things that have happened, kind of like the day in review.

That's the only time, besides later on, when they're together like this. The only time they sit with their heads leaning close and whisper in secretive tones. That's the only times she giggles without reprimand. The only moment when she can touch him without fear and stroke the hair away from his forehead, like I've always wanted to.

They share their secret in plain sight of the world and they don't care. And truthfully, neither does the world.
