Author: Regency Title: The Thing That Killed Him ~~~~~~ He doesn’t remember when the rain started or the prayer. He just remembers the sound of people dying, of dying a
little bit himself. He doesn’t remember falling or even the weakness in his knees. He remembers the heaviness of his
heart and the grief on his mind. He’d sent them there. They were Peacemakers. That’s what they did; made peace
and he’d sent them there to die, because that was the one place in the world where peace wasn’t wanted despite
every argument to the contrary. No one wanted peace. Why should he even bother? He honestly can’t remember when that
became the following thought of every other. He’s made these promises with the dying heart of an optimist in need of a legacy. This would be his legacy: Failing.
And that would be the thing that killed him. |
